Larmet is a small farming hamlet at the deciduously wooded end of a no-through lane high on the side of a valley. The buildings of La Grange, which make up about one third of Larmet, have beautiful views across sunflower fields and vineyards to the Dronne Valley. The mature gardens offer many different varieties of trees and L'Ancienne Grange enjoys a secluded walled garden with pivate decked patio so dining can be inside or outside. In addition to the tennis court and swimming pool there is a boules court for the Francophiles among you which can be enoyed with a glass of Bordeaux in the other hand. The open plan lounge dining and kitchen provides ample space for 8 people and is complemented by the four large bedrooms two of which enjoy an ensuite and the other two share a bathroom. Satellite TV and radio and DVD player provide the entertainment and a wonderful log burner makes out of season visits a real pleasure.
The pool and all weather “En Tout Cas” tennis court are excellently maintained so with plenty of interesting walks in and around Larmet the days can be quite energetic enough without even leaving home or using the car! Many visitors simply play tennis, swim in the pool, enjoy wine under the shade of the trees while gazing peacefully across the valley. Wi-fi by arrangement
The River Dronne is accessible from the road at the end of the lane up to Larmet. Opportunities for angling, boating, canoeing and river swimming are plentiful throughout this area which has many lakes and river beaches. St. Aulaye, which has a sandy beach on the banks of the River Dronne, is less than five minutes away, and is an ideal place for young children to spend the afternoon. The swimming is safe, canoes can be hired and there is a restaurant providing drinks, snacks and ice creams. Within easy reach are towns such as Bordeaux, St Emilion, Brantome, and Cognac, all famous for their wines and spirits. The area is paradise for wine lovers, who may visit various chateaux and wine stores on the renowned Bordeaux wine trail.

How to get there
Larmet is situated on the border between the Charente and the Dordogne, relatively close to Bordeaux and the west coast, yet with the Green Perigord and the Haute Vienne easily reached to the east. Long distance footpaths, chateaux and Romanesque church trails, numerous prehistoric sites for wondering at the activities of the Trogolytic man, museums for stimulating the little grey cells and a staggering selection of wine routes for relaxing them again.
Only five kilometres away is the charming old Roman town of Aubeterre, which was voted to be the prettiest town in France in 1994. There is a fascinating subterranean church dating back hundreds of years, which along with the museums, the many art and craft shops and the local puppet show make Aubeterre worthy of several visits.
Slightly further afield, but still within an hours drive is Domme, in the heart of the Dordogne. Set high on a promontory is has fantastic views over meadows, villages and of course the river. Domme is most famous for its cuisine, considered by many to be the best in France. Foie gras, truffles and confit de canard are available in most restaurants and you may find yourself tempted to return.
This is an area as rich in history as it is in hospitality and one which is usually blessed with plentiful sunshine
