"Aspenwood Cottage " provides luxury self catering accommodation overlooking Loch Ness at Inverfarigaig in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. We welcome children and one or two well behaved dogs. Sorry - no puppies. Aspenwood is a personally designed luxury cottage completed in June 2002, it is a fantastic location with superb views across Loch Ness. The cottage offers accommodation throughout the year and, knowing that the majority of our guests would have travelled a distance, we make sure that upon arrival the cottage is ready for you to enjoy. You will find it cosy and warm, with all beds made and our special 'Highland welcome tray' awaiting you. All the rooms are on the same floor. There are three bedrooms - a master bedroom with king size bed, en suite and private decking, one twin and one single - sleeping 5 comfortably. There is a spacious comfortable lounge with fantastic views of the loch and access to the elevated decking, a large open plan kitchen and dining area and a separate bathroom with bath and shower. A very important design factor of this luxury cottage was light - so we have endeavoured to make all rooms as light and bright as possible. The main rooms are positioned to gain full advantage of sunlight at all times. The kitchen/lounge/vestibule doors to the hallway are all glass panelled encouraging maximum light into each room.
In order to keep noise to a minimum inside the cottage there is a separate utility/laundry room outside at the rear of the cottage which houses the washing machine, tumble dryer and boiler. It also offers the facility of drying clothes in wet weather and ample storage space. Outside rotary washing line and pegs are available.
In view of the woodland location of Aspenwood we do not allow the use of barbeques.
Around the cottage is a paved path and a large gravel area interspersed with seasonal potted plants and local heathers flowering throughout the year - that is if the wandering deer allow them time to grow. The various wild flowers that grow around the cottage area at different times of the year create a marvellous, colourful environment. A cement base for easy parking is adjacent to the cottage.
A door from the lounge leads onto the private decking where you can sit and bask in the tranquillity whilst gazing over Loch Ness.
Furniture is provided for you to relax on while enjoying the views. Sit in comfort on the decking and watch the boats glide by in front of you. The cottage is situated on the outskirts of the village of Inverfarigaig midway down the southern shore of Loch Ness in the Highlands of Scotland. The nearest shop/P.O. and cafe is in the village of Foyers - about 3 miles towards the southernmost village of Fort Augustus. It is 16 miles from Inverness - capital of the Highlands - and a similar distance from Fort Augustus - a bustling village at the most southern end of Loch Ness.
Centrally situated so that one can make trips to the west coast - Skye, Plockton, Ullapool etc., and also travel up the east coast to JohnO'Groats, Castle of Mey, Dunrobin Castle and the farthest point north on the Scottish mainland - Dunnet Head - returning home comfortably on the same day.

Loch Ness is the most famous lake in the world. Loch is the Scottish word for lake and many of you, especially overseas visitors often refer to it Lake Ness, and even Loch Ness Lake! but to all Scots it is Loch Ness, and besides who has ever heard of the lake ness monster!
Loch Ness is a substantial body of water about 24 miles long by a mile wide and at its deepest point it goes down nearly 1,000 ft. Loch Ness lies at the northeast end of the Great Glen in the Highlands of Scotland and occupies a large part of the Great Glen fault. The Great Glen is a geological fault running across the entire width of the Highlands of Scotland. It runs southwest from Inverness right down to Fort William and contains three freshwater lochs - Loch Ness, Loch Oich and Loch Lochy. Fort William is situated near the west coast on the sea loch Loch Linnhe. These lochs are linked by the Caledonian Canal which enables boating craft to journey from the east coast to the west through stepped lock gates at Fort Augustus and at Fort William overlooked by Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles. The Caledonian Canal was built by Thomas Telford in 1803 and eventually opened in 1822. It has 29 lock gates to navigate along its 60 mile route.
Loch Ness is about 52 ft above sea level and, because of its depth, it has a larger volume of water than any other Scottish loch - although Loch Lomond has a larger surface area it is not so deep. Loch Ness is said never to freeze.
