We’ve furnished Next Door@Dar 91 using mainly reclaimed, fixed-up furniture, working with local craftspeople to create a modern twist on Moroccan design, using handmade tiles, carved stone, marquetry and a variety of locally produced textiles - along with contemporary European items and vintage objects found in junk shops and markets. An explosion of colour, light and textures, Next Door@Dar 91 is both a feast for the senses and an oasis of tranquility, set high above the medina - an ideal space in which to recharge your batteries and draw inspiration from the rhythms of Essaouira.

There is an extra bed space in the mezzanine/chill out zone (which forms an annexe to the bedroom) to accommodate an extra adult or a child (at a cost of £10 per night). We offer: • Unlimited phone and email support before your stay, to help you plan a fantastic holiday • Our free guide with ideas about places to visit, eat and drink in and around Essaouira, including a few cultural tips and reflections • Tea, coffee, sugar, milk and a bottle of water for your arrival • Delicious home-made Moroccan biscuits from L’Association Feminine de Bienfaisance "El Khir", a local charity (for week-long bookings only) • A free bowl of fruit, olive oil and spices (for week-long bookings only) For breakfast, we pride ourselves on allowing our guests privacy, so rather than barging in to create a fully prepared tray, we make available provisions for you to make your own breakfast as and when you want it. Our house manager will keep the kitchen stocked with coffee, tea, milk, sugar, jam and butter. She will also deliver oven-fresh bread and/or croissants, plus yogurt, to the bottom of the stairs every morning. Our house manager comes to the house to clean every day. We provide bath and hand towels (not beach towels) and these are changed regularly, along with the bedding, during your stay. Additional services we can help arrange • Taxi transfers to and from airport and/or other cities/locations in Morocco • Traditional Moroccan evening meals (tagines or cous cous), delivered to the house: not part of our general ‘package’ but can be organised at additional cost • Visits to the local hammam • Local excursions, including horse and camel treks, quad biking • Cookery courses • Raffia weaving courses

How to get there
Fly to Marrakech or Agadir (flights available from Royal Air Maroc, Easyjet, Ryanair etc). We can arrange a taxi transfer from the airport (we take no commission) and/or can advise on bus services/car hire.
NextDoor@Dar91 is less than five minutes away from the Bab Doukkala (Essaouira’s Northern Gate). It is at 91, Rue Chbanat - a long-ish road that runs along one length of the town’s outer wall.
Before you set off for your holiday we will ask you for details of your expected arrival time, and on the basis of this our house manager will be waiting for you at the house.

Under-5s stay free; discounts for children aged 5-16. We are extremely aware of the social and economic challenges faced by the people of Essaouira and its rural hinterland. We give a minimum of 10% of our profits to local causes we believe in. We focus particularly on: • Sponsoring children through school, especially in the most remote rural areas where often the logistics and costs of getting to and from school are enough to dissuade families from allowing their children to complete their education • Helping families in need with the cost of schoolbooks and uniforms to assist them in keeping their children at school • One-off hardship payments to help widows and divorced women • Micro-loans to help individuals start their own small income-generating ventures • Supporting our neighbours’ health by paying doctors’ and dentists’ fees where we feel it is necessary We also invite our guests to bring any unwanted clothes (all shapes and sizes), toys, pencils, pens, exercise books etc for direct distribution locally; and we collect toothbrushes and toothpaste for our oral hygiene project in the countryside.
